M´Vila targeting Euro 2012 glory

France midfielder Yann M Vila believes that his side have a genuine chance of winning the 2012 Euro 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine.

Les Bleus qualified for Europe’s most prestigious international competition directly after winning Group D in their qualifying campaign.

But Laurent Blanc’s side was far from convincing during the qualification process, finishing just one point ahead of Bosnia and Herzegovina with 21 points from 10 matches and scoring just 15 goals in the process.

M Vila, however, is confident of a successful European Championship campaign and is determined to win the competition France last claimed in 2000.

I m proud, happy and above all relieved that we ve reached the finals, the 21-year-old told FIFA.com ahead of France s friendly…

Aston Villa 0-0 Manchester United: Visitors´ winless streak continues after Villa Park stalemate

Aston Villa and Manchester United shared the spoils in an underwhelming 0-0 draw at Villa Park.

With both sides having been in European action in midweek, albeit to varying degrees of success, there was a lethargic feel to Sunday s clash.

Both sides went close early in the second half. Emiliano Martinez tipped over Marcus Rashford s fierce drive, while Youri Tieleman s long-range strike was pushed away by Andre Onana.

Bruno Fernandes almost broke the deadlock in the 68th minute – the United skipper rattling the crossbar with a 25-yard free-kick.

Diogo Dalot made a vital intervention to block Jaden Philogene s stoppage-time effort, as neither team were able to find the breakthrough.

Unai Emery s side sit fifth on 14 points, while United are 14th…

Barcelona boss Flick to rely on experience amid injury crisis

Barcelona boss Hansi Flick will rely on his experienced players as the Blaugrana navigate an injury crisis early on in his first campaign at the helm.

A perfect seven wins from as many matches in LaLiga this season means Barca could match the best start in their league history on Saturday, when they visit Osasuna.

Only once have Barca won their first eight matches to start a league campaign, doing so in 2013-14 under Gerardo Martino but ultimately finishing second to Atletico Madrid that season.

Flick s impressive start at Camp Nou has come despite injuries biting at his squad, with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen the latest casualty as he underwent knee surgery this week.

He has joined Dani Olmo, Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, Fermin Lopez and An…

Shakhtar call for Iran to be thrown out of Qatar 2022 World Cup and replaced by Ukraine

Shakhtar Donetsk have called for Iran to be banned from playing at the Qatar 2022 World Cup and Ukraine to replace them because terrorists should not be allowed to play in the tournament.

Ukraine was invaded by Russia in February. The country s football team reached the final stage of UEFA s qualification play-offs but suffered defeat to Wales in June.

FIFA and UEFA subsequently banned Russia from playing international football.

Now however, Ukrainian Premier League side Shakhtar on Monday urged FIFA to prevent Iran from competing in Qatar, and to replace them with Ukraine instead.

Ukraine should be at the World Cup. Iran deserves no place there!
